Actually, I really do believe that this is pure coincidence.
Billions of dollars in federal aid delivered directly to the local level to help revive the economy have gone overwhelmingly to places that supported President Obama in last year’s presidential election.
That aid — about $17 billion — is the first piece of the administration’s massive stimulus package that can be tracked locally. Much of it has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation.
There’s no politics at work when it comes to spending for the recovery,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says.
First, ALL government spending, is purely political. “Stimulus” spending just more so. Second, I do not believe the government is capable of being so precise and accurate in anything they do. Some time back, I was asked whether I thought 9/11 was an inside job. Rather than a scientific rationale, I simply argued that the Bush administration was so clueless, so inept, that it would be an operation they were completely incapable of handling. But I argued that this was true for any government operation, regardless the party or ideology.
Wasn’t Katrina the perfect example of governmental incompetence. And that was at all levels, which the flooded parking lot full of school buses attests.
Let’s face it: is there anyone who thinks the government can run something efficiently? Now, what does explain this?
The answer is rather simple. The reason the money is flowing more and faster towards democratic areas is that they tend to be people who are recipients of more (note I say more, not solely, as republicans are also adept here) government theft. Thus, the apparati are already in place. When the government begins to spend more and faster, the pipelines for transferring stolen wealth are already there, and the looting naturally flows where it is easiest.
This doesn’t mean that republican areas won’t be recipients of more booty either, nor will they neglect to improve their “infrastructure”. Most surely they will do the latter, and be welcome of the former.
